How to Draw A Cartoon Flamingo
Step 1
For this first step of our tutorial on how to draw a cartoon flamingo, let’s start with the bird’s head!
A flamingo’s head sits at the end of a long, thin neck, and we’ll also start drawing that neck.
For now, use some rounded lines for the flamingo’s head. As you can see in the reference image, it’s quite small and round.
The beak is also large and rounded and has an L. Finally, draw the thin neck before proceeding to step 2!
Step 2
Continuing with this cartoon flamingo drawing, we now add some facial details along with the beginning of the body. For the eye, draw a circle with a black circle inside.
This black circle has a small white dot for a wink.
Next, we start with the body. Use a curved line for the chest and a much longer one for the flamingo’s back.
This will end with a pointed tip that will form the beginning of the tail, but we’ll draw more of this later.
Step 3
Before adding more contours to this cartoon flamingo, let’s add some minor details on the side of the body first. More specifically, let’s draw some feathers for the wing.
These should be fairly easy to add, as you must draw several small curved lines that connect.
As promised, in this step of our how-to draw a cartoon flamingo guide, you will finish the wing you started in the previous step.
This should be easier than the previous one since you’re repeating what you started in this step.
These curved and pointed shapes will be longer this time as they represent the end of the wing.
This will only be the beginning of the wings, but we will add more feathers to finish them off in the next step of the guide.
Step 4
As promised, in this step of our how-to draw a cartoon flamingo guide, you will finish the wing you started in the previous step.
This should be easier than the previous one since you’re repeating what you started in this step.
These curved and pointed shapes will be longer this time as they represent the end of the wing.
You are doing a great job with this cartoon flamingo drawing so far! Now let’s start adding the finishing touches and elements before adding some color to this beautiful bird.
With some more curved lines, we add the base of the body. Be sure to leave some space at the bottom of the cartoon flamingo, as we will add the legs here later.
Then you are ready to add more to the body contour!

These legs can be a little trickier to draw than you expect, so follow the reference image carefully as you draw!
The one closest to us as viewers will be pointing straight down, while the other will be curved and raised. Before proceeding to the last step of the guide, be sure to add any additional details you might like!
Finally, we’ll draw the rest of the tail for this step. For these feathers, use some more pointed shapes at the end of the body, and then we’re ready for the details and finishing touches.
Step 6
Flamingos have very long, thin legs and often stand in a rather peculiar way, with one leg slightly raised. This is the position we will take in this next phase.
These legs can be a little trickier to draw than you expect, so follow the reference image carefully as you draw!

We used this distinctive pink colorway in our reference image.
The pink looks stunning, and you should use some nice light mediums when adding it! We recommend colored pencils, acrylic paints, or felt-tip pens for this.
Adding your background setting or other animals to complete the picture could be fun.
Step 7
You are now ready for the last step of this drawing! First, a fun fact about flamingos: did you know that their feathers are colored pink due to the diet they live on?
